View with the meal, 國福樓／南海一號, I-Square, TST, Kowloon

My Thai business friends are in town. Brought them to this restaurant on the top floor of I-Square. We were all "eating" the view rather than paying attention to the food.

1. The tallest building in Central TST - lower section is Hyatt Regency and upper section is apartments for the zillionaires. 2. No. 1 Nan Hai is the bar together with Guo Fu Lou. Check the window behind. It's Peninsula office tower.

3. TST. Mody Rd. is clearly seen on the right middle below next to Hyatt. 4. the left one is another big fancy mall (forgot the name). It was Tung Yin Mansion 東英大廈

5. New World Center in the middle. On the other side is Causeway Bay. 6. the table setting. The food is so so (no need to post) but very expensive. 7 persons for dim sum/soup/veggie/rice costs HK$1,500. So the "view" cost is $700.

Dusit Thani - I am still here

1/2 When I watched the TV, seeing this good old friend in turmoil, it really ached my heart. So when I went back to see this friend last week, it's like a fresh new morning after. STAY STRONG!

3/4. A no. of innocent people were gone in this area (Silom/Rama IV). So innocent. The city of Angels embraces you and carries you.

King size bed

When chatting with my friend about some other misleading info. given by Pimalai, here is one more interesting thing. On their web page, they claimed they use 7 feet king size bed but it turned out 2 single bed being put together. Note the bed stand is also for single bed use. That means they are misleading customers. I really don't know why the renowned travel magazine named this resort for an award. Those people should look into the details. It's not a single point. Lots of discrepancies.

Il Cielo, Italian restaurant, Dusit Thani, Bangkok, Thailand

Of course, other than the tasting platter, we tried other dishes.

1. Find something inappropriate? 2. Some spicy, some sweet and some curry. I forgot some of it as the others switched my attention.

3. the bread basket. We order one more. :) 4. mushroom soup - nice mushroom flavour.

5. Tomato spaghetti - the tomato sauce is very nice. 6. Crab meat and roe pizza. Very aromatic and I insisted to finish it.

7. Grilled snow fish. Very juicy inside and it's on a very high heat grilling. It's in a very thick cut. 8. Seafood platter. Fresh seafood and nice tomato sauce too.

9. Braised wagyu beef with risotto. The beef brisket cut was used. Though it's a bit salty and probably kind of Southern Italian cooking style, the beef was done very nice. Also the risotto was cooked to a perfect texture. 10. Tiramisu. Nice balance of coffee and vanilla flavour, also very moist.

11. Sorbet - red currant, blood red orange and mint. Quite surprised to see these kinds of flavours. Personally I prefer the sorbet to be less sweet as I can taste the original flavour of the fruit. 12. the entrance.

Appetizer Tasting Platter, Il Cielo, Dusit Thani, Silom, Bangkok

1. the whole platter. 2. Pancetta and sage wrapped prawns with lemon dressing/Deep fried calamari with tomato and lemon.

3. Garlic bruschetta with mozzarella cheese, anchovies and black truffle/Pan-fried duck liver with crispy Coppa ham. 4. Tuna tartar with artichoke, olives, sun-dried tomatoes and trout caviar/Marinated goat cheese with garlic, chili and olives.

5. Beef carpaccio with arugula, letuce, porcini mushroom and cubes of duck liver/Parma ham with sweet honeydew melon and figs. 6. So perfect for sharing and you would find food sharing an unspoken happy warm feeling. THB970 for 2 and 1790 for 4. *remarks: All these are very fine selected food. Pizza gizmo finally accepted eating raw beef on the above no. 5 and got surprised with how good this beef carpaccio is. The magic of tempting food!

Furamaxclusive Sathorn/Silom, Bangkok

Tried booking this room at a very popular web site and the room rate was THB1,799net, but somehow that website Asian sub-office replied so rude that I decided to book the hotel directly. There the hotel offered a rate at THB1,279net (incl. ABF but I forgo the ABF). Right now, BKK has lots of bargain hotels. Get ready! My personal recommendation is the package of CX with Marriott Vista Sathorn at HK$2,100 for 3 nights at 1 bed room suite (I've checked their room - superb and they have a salty water swimming pool.).

Sale sale sale - Tea Room by Grand Hyatt Bangkok

Almost every shop and restaurant in Bangkok are now cutting prices from 50-70%. I bought some nice long coat and jackets (yes "s"). Some of them was B8,200 but now B2,400. Some restaurants even launched some uplifting programs such as 50% off the bill or the next bill for free on the same amount spent on the one you spend.

The high tea set is THB220 net and I didn't expect they are counting this one on sale too. When I was given the bill and I asked the lady "you made a mistake as we ordered 2.", but the lady told me "we offer 50% off on all at-table dining". So it turns out THB220 for 2 persons, i.e. THB110 for one! The original price is cheap already and now amazingly cheap. However, the food and drink quality didn't drop. What a 100 mark merit!
