3/4. In such a contrast, Silom was so crowded with all these people starting their water gun fire. My friends and I just stayed on the sky train walkway over Silom. Regretted a bit that I forgot the Songkran New Year which I really wouldn't appreciate. I tried once - for the first day "ah, It seemed to be quite fun.", then the next day "it's getting boring" and then the 3rd day "pls stop it.".

Hey! I love Songkran! I went to Chiang Mai about a couple of years back and celebrated Thai New Year there. We got splashed by water everywhere from noon to 6pm (the ice cold water was the one that wakes you up most) and danced on the jam packed streets in front of a big mall where they played music and have staged some performers as well. We walked along the streets and we fire water guns on the kids and they fought back by firing their own water guns and we chased them around.
Yeah, but of course if you are all dressed up and not wanting to get wet then you will find it very annoying if they splash water on you. Some hazzards are to those who are driving their motorbikes and get splashed by water on their faces. But then again, motorists and pedestrians alike must be prepared for the event.
So the first day or two should be fine. (You've got to be in the mood and spirit when you go to Thailand for Songkran.) But overall, my friends and I enjoyed it!
It's just an imperfect timing for the State of Emergency in Bangkok during the time of Songkran. Hope it ill end all peacefully soon.
Yes, you need to be in the mood for feeling like getting wet; otherwise it's very annoying and especially when you are not prepared for your stuff like your cell. phone or wallet getting wet.
I don't think I like to be wet like that. But I do enjoy to see other people get wet. But my son said he likes to get wet that way as it can cool him down in hot day.
If we don't see the photo no. 3 and 4, we may think Bangkok is like a dead town and people don't go out. the newspapers said Bangkok is burnt. so horrible. I think just like HK had the WTO a few years ago. people think HK is in war but at that time we still open business like usual. I tried to get wet too a few years ago in Bangkok and it was very funny.
By the way, my friend's mother got in hospital because of watching all those exaggerating news on one side as she was much much worried about my friend's safety. The news in HK even said "HK people in Bangkok need to save themselves on their own. Bangkok is in fire and everywhere is a battlefield. Tickets back to HK is very tight and no one can get out of the Country until 16th April.". I really wanna write back to those newspapers and ask why I could come back on 14th April? Also the flight I took was just 80% full!". Those newspapers were really not responsible and considerate.
