Shanghai Garden, encore.., HK

Don't know why this morning I felt like the mini sticky rice dumpling in wined broken rice sweet. I decided to try a few more dishes of this restaurant. 2 visits within 3 days.

1. Hand shred smoked chicken HK$78. Strong smoked flavour and together with the parsley/scallion thin slices as a bed. Then mixed with the little hot sweet soy sauce. Good! 2. Light fried smoked duck 樟茶鴨 HK$160. Surprisingly good. In most restaurants they would make this one a bit dried out, but this one is not. Besides, it's not oily at all, but very poultry fat aromatic 酥香. So good to go with steamed rice!

3. The restaurant served some steamed buns to go with the duck. Very thoughtful. 4. Deep fried yellow fish in sweet and sour sauce HK$158. 松鼠黃魚 - another original name of this famous Shanghai dish. Yes, it should be called like that - it's because the chef would cut the fish in a chrysanthemun style. This way the fish meat would be in a chrysanthemun shape to blow. So it's like a furry mouse. It'd be the Mandarin calling. In Cantonese, it's called chrysanthemun style. I learned it when I was 9. My grand mom. asked me to go to a restaurant nearby for deep frying 2 big yellow fish. Those 2 big yellow fish can't be deep fried at home. So she told me to tell the restaurant for a "chrysanthemun deep frying". At that time I wondered what it's like for chrysanthemun. Actually this photo is a bit less complicated as it's not a big fish. Considering it's a big fish (over 3 catties), you cut the fish in many slices but stuck on the bone. When it's deep fried, it's like a blooming flower!

5. Stir fried bean sprouts. HK$72. A nice mix of Beijing green bean sprouts and white ones. 6. Veggie fish soup HK$88. A very light soup to taste the fresh green and fish chunks sweetness. The difference of Hang Zhou cuisine and Shanghai's is that Hang Zhou's is more on the simple flavour and the freshness. Shanghai's is more on the sauce to make it taste. So tonight is Sunday. The area of Hutchison's House is really inconvenient as there is no shopping mall around, but this restaurant is full house and seems like lots of regular guests. Really something!

The food here must be very good if there are many repeating customers, especially this is in the middle of nowhere with no shopping mall, also price is not cheap here.

But the portion is quite big; so it makes up for the price.

If the portion is big then it is not expensive, considered it is HK standard.
