Niyama Maldives, part 2

Niyama resort is a 2nd sister property newly established by the Desert Palm resort in Dubai. The first one is the renowned Huaven Fushi. My first intention of choosing this resort is part of their underwater dance club called Subsix (photo 1) and above it is a water restaurant called the Edge. Unfortunately, the resort manager told me that Subsix has a sinking issue that they need to fix it before it got leaked. So the opening time is now postponed until September, originally in early June. Actually I found out quite a no. of water villas are still to be fixed and in fact, I changed to another room due to some electronic distribution box being so noisy in the middle of the night. As I chatted with other guests (BTW, half of the guests are from China), some rat problem is there. Seems like the resort needs to have a serious overall check.

Wow half from China is a lot.
Cannot believe this high end hotel has rat problem and also leaking problem too.
How much is the room here?
The infinity pool is super.

Tonight Chinese tourists are even more. I think for the animal it's hard to control. However, on the facility and structure parts, they need to pay more attention.

rats in the middle of the ocean? probably brought from the red China.

It is good for the rats to join the wild party though.

When transporting those constructional material and food to the island, there will be "more" to be transported. Rats like travelling on boats. Fortunate that I don't see any rat. Anyway, this is a remote place. Something like animals or insects are quite difficult to control. Better bring more insect repellers. Not sure if the repellers' smell kept those rats away from me. Maybe it helped.

You are too clean to attract the rat Sea.

Really? 50% chinese tourists there? I deliberately picked this new resort to avoid overcrowded mainland china tourists, thinking it's brand new & is a boutique hotel instead of the big brandnames they like. Guess I'm wrong... But hope they didn't bother you for enjoying your vacation. ;p

Thanks Syu for the note. Mega Air has more direct flights from Shanghai and Cheng Du. That means there is a strong growing demand from Chinese tourists. I can say those I met in Niyama are some more discerning travellers from not just China but also other territories. No worry, even when I am in the water villa, I didn't see a tourist passing by in front of my villa.

Bring 2-3 cameras incl. one water proof that you can go under water. :)

Yes, that's what I'm going to bring, a SLR camera, a compact camera & an underwater camera, w/ the tripod, chargers, maybe my laptop as well, just the gadgets may weight 5 kg or more! Really thx for your info about the luggage allowance, so I can pack carefully. Good that it's a summer place, clothings are all very light.

BTW, do they provide free snorkel gears? Or for rental? And I assume they'll accept all major credit cards for payment for any water activity, right?

Good. When in the morning, please gradually adjust your air-con. little by little, because the sea breeze will get the condensation easily indoor when the indoor temperature is much cooler than the outside. I would put those electronic stuff back behind the bed so as to avoid that condensation problem.
Yes, they do have free snorkel gears. Please go buy some water shoes (with tough plastic) because the coral is quite sharp. Then with the tough water shoes on, you can walk easily and watch the coral (but try not to step on them) and many marine life. When seeing a shark, don't panic. Try not move so quickly. I once saw a shark about 4 feet but got away when seeing us. Also suggest you walk on the side where the water villas no. from 78-93. Also walk to the coral area in low tide, as it's quite wavey in high tide and you would easily get hurt. The current can be a bit strong too at high tide. The hotel will have a detailed daily weather forecast delivered to you room. You would know it.
They do accept many major credit cards.
They have house reef snorkeling at a charge of US$25.

Thx for the advice about condensation issues to cameras, I've never thought about that until your professional advice, thx! :)

Good, free snorkel gears there, one less thing to bring. Oh yes, always bring water booties to beach vacations. In fact those are cheap in US here, cost less than $10. I can imagine the corals & marine life will be so amazing in Maldives, definitely need to be aware not stepping on them & causing harm to such beautiful yet delicate environment. We're used to being cautious to sealife, for instance if anyone steps on the corals in Hawaii or Caribbeans, the locals will get very mad & yell at the tourists, which is good, so everyone will be more careful in terms of protecting the sea & nature!

Can't wait to swim w/ the sharks & sting rays! I did a sting rays excursion once in the Caribbeans, but it's more in an enclosure, smelt very bad as they're fed by dead fishes... Probably these fresh water ones will be better!

I'll assume the low tides there are also in the mornings? High tides in evenings?

The wild life is in danger due to our world being expanded so much. So if there is anything we can help, we should.
The marine life in Maldives are very colorful. Even the ink from the octopus is very red brown.
The tide will change due to the moon rise and moon set. When it's in new moon, the tide will be low in the early morning and then it tide will move an hour or so later onward. Then on the full moon, the low tide will be low in the late evening.
