East Ocean Restaurant, 東海酒樓 Quarry Bay, Hong Kong

1/2. condiments for the Beijing Duck

3. pan cake for the Duck 4. the Duck is nice but the waitress didn't do a good job in evenly slicing the Duck. Cutting technique is also a major part for Beijing Duck. The slices can't be too thin or thick. If too thin, you can't taste the meat juice. Too thick, it will be too chewy for you. However, most restaurants often miss this important step. Personally I am not into Beijing Duck but for such an upper-price restaurant as East Ocean, they should pay attention to thess details.
5. Another important thing to eating Beijing Duck is to eat it as quickly as possible. The pancakes will dry up easily in an air-conditioned environment. 6. Lotus stem spare rib soup - very nice and the oil was finely drained away. Nice job! However, the waiter kept on bothering us "get more soup" right after we finished one bowl. When we said "we wanna wait", then he grabbed my niece's soup bowl. When we asked why he did that, he replied "well, you don't want soup, so I took away it.".

7. Stewed pork in preserved veggie - a bit below average. The pork should have browned a bit further - it was a bit too soft when tasting it. 8. stir fried diced duck meat in lettuce - quite disappointed when I noticed the lettuce was not fresh enough. Some were rotten!

9. Stir fried scallop with celery - Do you notice what went wrong? It's the plate. Don't you find it the food being squeezed on such a small plate? Did East Ocean have not enough decent plates? This dish was at HK$148. 10. Stir fried morning glory - haha... a Choy Sum was given for free!

Immediately I called for the captain and complained first on the waiter's rude manner on serving the soup. No. 2 - the rice was not cooked well - I told the captain they put the leftover rice into the not yet well done rice and it's the worst thing they did that! No. 3 - the scallop was served in such an interesting plate. No. 4 - the veggie with a free Choy Sum! I simply told her if it's not East Ocean, I wouldn't bother to complain about these, esp. on the waiter's service. She kept apologising and funny part she said "oh, that guy is very strange. I couldn't even ask him to follow my order.". My answer "then it's your management problem.".

ok, then one more good reason to eat Cantonese food in Bangkok :)

i think Siam Paragon does pretty good, next time maybe shall bring u to Ah Yat although i quite hesitate to go after they sold us a 3-person portion of baked rice in clay pot with preserved sausage and meat for over Baht 3k++, but Ah Yat dishes r good in average

There are still some nice Cantonese restaurants in HK. However, East Ocean as an upper priced restaurant shouldn't treat customers like that.

My friends also told me East Ocean is not as good as before. Dish is small and a bit expensive. If the service is bad, no need to go.
