Yuen Kee Sweet Shop (源記甜品)西營盤正街, Ching Street, Sai Yin Pun, Hong Kong

Met my best friend from Taipei last night. Accompanied her to check in Island Pacific Hotel in Sai Yin Pun's Ching Street, Western District of Hong Kong Island. Brought back some memory of my high school time! So after check-in, why not go for a dessert at this renowned dessert shop. My friend got surprised with the way they made Almond cream and the nostalgic taste. Taiwanese speaking "古早味".
1. the almond cream is not like the almond tea (typical one by Moon Kee). This one is with some thickening and with some lotus seed. The good thing about Yuen Kee is that they make the sweet soup not that sweet and you can taste the original taste. 2. the shop - as you can see it's still pretty busy.

3. The famous classic style steamed egg cake! If you like the western or Japanese style cake, this may not be the one you like. It's a very classic Cantonese steamed egg cake. I am amazed with the way they use rock sugar in it. The sweet is like crystal clear. So the essence of this cake is to taste the "egg" taste! So they don't put the milk or other enhancing ingredients. Just simply tasting the egg. If you put too much butter or milk in it, it will cover the egg taste. So you need to know what this egg cake is. That really reminds me of my grandma's birthday lunch. We will have this kind of steamed plain egg cake, wonton and sticky rice dumpling for the lunch.
