Asiana Restaurant 喜萬年 Wanchai HK

I was told this restaurant used to be a place for the "black and white" (police and mafia) in the 60's/70's. Part of the restaurant used to be a night club with singing live performance. The first time I visited this restaurant had already been solely for dining. The food may not be the best but historically it really means something to many HK people. I kind of like their BBQ section, like the plain chicken which is in some very traditional classic taste. At least this one has chicken flavour. They are also good at BBQ pork and roasted suckling pig.

wow chicken that hv the chicken flavor is like winning 2nd prize of mark-6 in HK, i remember few years ago an ATV gourmet program presenter (a lady, forgot her name) told the audience that the chicken she sampled hv chicken flavor, the second day all over HK media laughed at the way she described the taste of the dish; but now, who dare to laugh at someone who says the chicken has "real chicken flavor", as today chicken normally only hv marinated and artificial chicken (Knorr perhaps) flavor .. Asiana, miss her!

I think that lady is called 黃麗梅. I guess it's not about the fact. It's rather something personal since her comments is only 2 description "this is chewy" & "this is sweet". So people would think whatever she said is nonsense. I think it's not just chicken. Even beef and pork have less flavour than they were. I went to some restaurants in Guang Zhou and their pork has my memory of the 70's/80's HK. Even same for BKK, I find out the pork has a better flavour, the beef in BKK is a bit too aerobic. :)

Chicken with real chicken flavor? Never heard of it in LA. We only know chicken with BBQ flavor, or chicken with no flavor here. :)

It's a bit crazy for us to say chicken with chicken flavour.. haha. Some foreign people would wonder what the chicken tastes like then.

You are right Mickey Mouse. That is why the name "fusion" is so widely used whenever things are mixed up(or messed up).

Forgot telling you Mickey. My local Thai friends told me the other day they hate a restaurant in Siam Kempinski (forgot the name) which is rated by M. That restaurant made a capsule with Tom Yam flavour and then take it with some hot soup and makes it like Tom Yam soup. So soon people would change to this kind of cuisine.

This is the Thai Restaurant who offered the "Fun G" food right?
If yes, my customer friend like it but her husband's family hate it.
