Night time video shooting - Canon 550D

550D has some super features from the Canon mid-line 7D and top-line 5D models. The digic 4 chip solves the problem on the dim corner part on the APS-C censor (due to reduced size as 0.625 portion on 35mm full frame). ISO setting to even 3,200, noise is not that significant. Taking photos at 4 frames per second. What's more, the 63 partition light sensor has made the light contrast more balanced without too bright and too dark on the whole photo composition. So on the movie shooting, it has various settings. Full HD at 30 fps (frame per second - the higher frames means more smooth of the motion). When set to lower resolution of 720 lines, the fps can be at 60. So I would much prefer to have a lower resolution but higher fps. Then with a bigger value aperture lens over F3.5, 550D can get you a very nice night time video shooting, even on the move. Note the below is just 50% of what they should be due to the web streaming and compression of file uploading.
1/2. these 2 were taken on the Canon F1.8 50mm lens.

3. On Canon 18/55 F3.5 lens, note the dim part on the Regent hotel due to the F3.5. Better use a lens over F3.5. Need to find out more of 550D.

it has been 4 years between the birth of 400D and 550D. So the performance is much much different. The more interesting part is that the zooming lens on this DSLR recording is something I didn't expect. Very good invention!

I was just looking forward to buy this after reading the reviews on the web, but can you believe that it is completely out of stock in Malaysia right now? LOL. Talk about FML moments... Apparently Canon brought in 6000 units and all were gone within a week. You seem to be having fun with it!

Was contemplating between the GF1 and this, but I think you made up my mind for me now.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Android, this 550D is really something. HK is selling at HK$6,980 with the 18/55 IS kit lens. If you don't have any canon lens. Get the one with 17/135 IS kit lens with HK$1,300 on top, i.e. total HK$8,280. This 17/135 is good as a versatile lens, and no need to consider to buy more until you want something more specific. Actually this was also out in HK 2-3 weeks ago after the TV launched the ad. It was out 2 month ago, but don't know why the TV ad. was late.

I was also in between those micro 4/3 but finally gave it up, since bigger cmos sensor is better. I would recommend this 550D.
