Yamm, The Mira, TST, Kowloon, Hong Kong

Miramar was one of those established classic hotels in Hong Kong but on a more touristic and common level. I haven't tried their outlets much and just got told about their comprehensive all-in buffet but quality-wise it's at average. To go with the trend, Miramar had a face lift and changed its name to The Mira. The talk of the town is their Yamm restaurant offering quality seafood int'l buffet. It's at HK$498+ with free flow of juices or beer plus coffee/tea. Booking a table takes a few weeks in advance.

1. the Entrance. 2. the restaurant inside.

3. Cheese rolls. Not bad. 4. First round for cold seafood. In general, it's pretty fresh.

5. Live oyster. Very fresh too. 6. Sashimi. They even served sea urchin. Oishi!

7. Tuna in black pepper sesame crust. 8. beer to go with seafood.

9. more sashimi. 10. Parma ham. Pretty aromatic.

11. Spicy salmon on veggie. 12. Bak Ku Teh (spare rib soup). A bit light.

13. Hot food, from foie gras (bottom left) with scallop, Steamed chicken, BBQ pork, to garlic prawn. All are above average. Quite surprised with their quality Chinese steamed chicken. 14. From left bottom, squash with shrimp, satay, prime rib, dried scallop fried rice. Good too except the prime rib which should have been in a further slower roasting. Still can't beat Crowne Plaza or Clipper Lounge.

15. A good point that they have individual cups of Haggen Daz ice cream - very hygiene. 16. Sweet. At average.

The dessert and bread look good.

They are clever to include the drink in the price, esp. to have beer to fill up people's stomach. Beer and juices are not that good to help digesting. Instead they are to block your food intake.

They are smart to include drink so price can be higher.
You are smart to know their trick.
Yes, if drink is included they can fill your stomach easily with less food.

that's why after Four Seasons brunch incl. wine and beer in the bill (of course increase price by 100%), we go there no more

Lord Jims of Mandarin Oriental Bangkok is best Sunday brunch and weekday lunch buffet venue

That's why I would try to avoid those "standard" and "look so grand" buffet.
