Hey Big Spenders

Under the recent survey carried out in Harbour City, Mainland Chinese tourists have at average a spending of HK$7,600 on each visit in HK, and an increasing no. of customers have their credit card spending at average to HK$ 5 million (US$625k)per year. This doesn't count the cash spending. So now we know why Canton Road has so many luxury boutiques. Next to the luxury goods, electronic stuff are the most popular things. On the photo no. 3, a long line is outside of Fortress store in Harbour City as it's open for registration for iPhone purchase (*note registration only). Meanwhile, iPhone is now the hit target of the long disappeared "head banging" gangsters (仆頭黨) (who rob someone's stuff by banging those heads with hard things like bricks).

I passed by Leonidas shop just opposite to Boardway and Fortress, and noticed no one was around. So these tell people tend to spend money on things which can be shown off. Why bother to spend a few hundred on eating something the others won't see?

When I was back in Hong Kong in January, I was shocked to see all those huge signs that you can see from 10 blocks away.

Yes we rely on Mainland Chinese to promote the economy here in LA too.

Mickey Mouse, It's an icon right now for having an iPhone. So being in fashion over anything else. I noticed some boys use iPhone to play game with girls on iPhone. The doctors here advised people playing iPhone apps for a long time will have "turkey" neck.

Pixmation, as you notice, there is no night time in Mongkok and Causeway Bay. So bright and no need to use flash. :)

Stella, at the recent interview with those Chinese tourists. They prefer coming to HK for shopping European or other int'l stuff, as it's shorter in distance and they can find more variety of Chinese restaurants. Besides, most shops close at 7-8pm in Europe or other Western cities. That's the point.

I agree with the Mainland Chinese that HK has its competitive edge over Europe for brand name shopping in many ways.

I hope in time the future Mainland Chinese wouldn't get much too contented and wouldn't think things in our life come naturally and taken for granted. The history often repeats itself.

You are right. Life is a circle game. Ten years River East and ten years River West.
