My motorcycle diary, Koh Samui, Thailand

Been to Koh Samui in the summer of 2005 and had a motorcycle ride round the island.

1. My first time to try riding a motorbike. It takes about 7-8 hours to ride round the island with a few stops of 30 minutes to 1 hour. few 2. While riding around the island on this road, a few songs came up in my mind - "Lying Eyes" and "Take it Easy" by the band Eagles.

2. a view to the east coast of Koh Samui. 3. The southern part of Koh Samui is quite for the local sea villagers.
4. There are quite a number of foreigners residing on the northern part of the island. 5. boat service to Koh Pah Ngan (the island far on the photo and it's the hide-away island as described by the book and Leonardo's movie "The Beach").

5. the Pier. 6. a local restaurant.

7. Big Guam-Im. 8. Bo Phut beach, on the north coast of Koh Samui

9. what a nice restaurant with such a spectacular view. 10. another local restaurant.
11. the Northern part of Koh Samui is quite trendy with lots of hip cafe and mini hotels.

Do you need an international driver's licence to hire that motorcycle or your friend has it?

My friend go to Phuket and didn't need a licence to hire a motorcycle. But he got hurt because the road is not good and then paid some damage fee. So better be careful.

Hiring a motorcycle doesn't need a driver's licence but your passport will be kept at the shop until you return it. Then we need to fill up the gas tank when it was before you left the shop. Of course, you need to be careful for not scratching it. Another concern is on the road condition. Koh Samui's road is with some small rocks and sand; so the tire will get slippery.
