Boeing 787

Boeing 787 having got on a successful virgin trial flight for 3 hour something last week made me so excited in seeing the new era of the air craft. In the past 2-3 decades, commercial airliners have been staying at the same and not made any breakthrough in the technology aspect. 787 is made of a new material which reduces the weight a lot and saves the fuel consumption by 20%. Besides, its bird-like design can lessen the air turbulence by 30%. The inflight pressurization can be adjusted to an elevation of 6,000 feet instead of 8,000 feet which most airliners are now at, leading to a better moisture inflight environment with a better air quality. All these should be what we want instead of making the jet much too big. 787 also targets to flight sectors on a point-to-point consideration and reduces the passenger load to around 220 to 300 passengers. This way the administration of a light air craft would be more efficient.

If it's not the financial crisis hitting the World for the past few years, 787 should have arrived earlier (supposed in 08). Yes, I really like the technology tends to make the travel journey easier and more comfortable, say by making the cabin air more moist and closer to the ground pressure. Fuel efficiency is also the point.
