Welcome back, Burger King!

Burger King was once in a very high competition with McDonald's in the 80's but then pulled out from HK in the late 90's. So as the HK new Airport was opened, the one and only shop could still be seen is there. In the past year, Burger King has silently expanded their branches in many corners in the city. Finally one landed in Wanchai. I really prefer Burger King as their beef burger is really flame-grilled and made to the order; so the bun wouldn't be too wet for being kept for over 20-30 minutes. Their potato is also selected and the frying oil is also quite refined. So paying a little more (HK$20-30 for a whopper jr/whopper and HK$38-42 for a combo) to get a "healthier" meal. We shouldn't say it's junk anymore considering the whopper has tomato, lettuce, cucumber... and the beef burger is not that "processed".

1. Burger King is now launching its "hot" whopper by putting some Mexican chili with a complimentary order of chicken fillets, a fries, a 32 oz soda at HK$41 (normal meal is HK$39 but the soda is 16 oz without chicken fillets). 2. See how big the 32 oz soda... have it your own way?

but this is definitely not the same story in Bangkok's Burger King

Though under franchise and with the same cooking utensils and food/ingredients/recipe/processing...etc., it would turn out each shop has its own characteristics of food quality. So just like I often tell I don't mind sharing a recipe because with one recipe, 1000 persons would cook 1000 different tastes. Mmh.. I should say the one in Wanchai is pretty good. Need to sample more in other areas.

I watched the Food, Inc. Documentary and since then trying to avoid big chain fast food.

Yes, I can say I also try to avoid MxDxnxlx's as I often find that almost from ice cream to burger/fries, all the food are "processed".

Actually nowadays it's hard to avoid. Water is contaminated and we are still surrounded by many things harming our health. However, once in a while, it shouldn't be of any problem and besides we should have our bodies be adaptive.

Burger King's burger is way better than MacDonald's. I don't understand why Mac Kee's business can be so good as I don't like their burger or fries at all.
You are right SEA, we need to let our body adapt to those not-so-healthy food as it is hard to avoid processed food nowadays. As long as we don't over do then ok la.
Pixmation you are right too. We shall still know what food is healthy and what is not. I always know about this part. But end up I still prefer to follow SEA's belief to let our body be adaptive(so I have excuse to eat wild.....). :)

I used to be influenced by reports, but later on it might be just on one side. Just like I told the others, the foreigners often claim Chinese food oily but what about pop corn, butter on bread, cream cake. Some say salty fish and dried pork sausage are not healthy either. Then what about anchovy and salami?

I am allergic to bamboo shoot and certain types of mango and honey dew melon. However, I have to take some of those food occasionally because I need to get my body's immune system to recognise those food. Allergy is simply because our body's immune can't recognise certain elements and it messed up itself by attacking itself. So in order for our immune system to learn of those unknown elements to them, we need to take some of it from time to time, but of course, if you have asthma or certain serious allergy, you really need to further consult with your doctor. I am talking about slight allergy.

Totally agreed. Trying little by little on foods that you are allergic has similar logic of taking the flu shot.
I am also allergic to the three kinds of food mentioned above. But now I over come the mango(because I like mango very much). I used to have rash and bad skin after eating mango because mango is "wet hot". So I did not really eat them until 2005(trip to BKK). And after that I am ok(also Chris).
But the other two food items I am still allergic. I like the sweet and ripe honey dew but I have scratchy throat after I eat it.
Now I am trying to over come this. As soon as I finish eating I drink one big glass of water to rinse the throat and it works. At least the most recent 2 times no scratchy throat.
This method I also apply to the white pepper powder that I am allergic to. I drink lots of water right after the white pepper. But have to drink water almost the same time though. The logic is to get rid of the white pepper in your throat that causes me sore throat.

Also, another proven way to cure mango allergy is after you eat the mango, boil the big seed with water and drink the water. Lots of people told me that. I did not try this method since I am ok with mango now(as long as I don't eat over 3 mangoes at one time).
I don't like bamboo shoot so no method invented to overcome this food yet.

Thanks SS. My grand mom also told me the same thing. Just like lychee, take the seed and the peel for soaking in boiling water. It would off set the "hot wet" character of lychee. To cure something, it has to go back to the source of that thing. Anyway, my allergy is not that serious. It's just some itchy throat. I normally get some hot water with some sugar (best with raw cane sugar bar) to offset such itchy feeling.

I also think bugger king is better. their bugger is more sauce.

Yes, raw brown cane sugar bar can cure allergy too. Also honey.
