HK style western food

For whose who have been a high school student in Hong Kong, they wouldn't find this plate a stranger.  Red soup (Borscht soup) or white soup (mushroom or corn cream soup) first, then steak in black pepper sauce on rice.  That's what we call lunch or dinner of the Day.  Nowadays, the restaurants have made it a bit more with duck breast and chicken wings...etc.  So this whole set with coffee/tea is at HK$35-40 (US$4.4-5.2).  It didn't taste good to me, but I took it all simply because I missed something in high school.  Do you miss it?

This is exactly what we are eating here every week if I go to Monterey Park area. Same soup, same black pepper steak over rice, then coffee and tea. Average price is $7-8US per set. This kind of cafe is popular here as this brings all the immigrants memory of our good old days in HK.

I think this HK culture western food is very unique. Like the local "tea" restaurant, they make the coffee and tea with thick evaporated milk and the taste is so strong. They even mixed the tea leaves to make their tea taste so special to impress the customers. Then about the borscht soup, it's just not that original Russian borscht (as I tried in the ex-Russian embassy Russian restaurant in Beijing). Also the cream soup is another adapted version of the western cream soup. Everything is adapted but it means so much to us!
