Tom Yum Krung by Samsem soi 3, Bangkok

Mr. Thailand Club brought my friend and I to this riverside restaurant up in the Chaophrya River (north of the hotel area).  I don't like Tom Yum Krung much actually as it's too salty and sour to me and oily too as you can see the oil layer on the soup.  However, I took it all because Mr. Thailand Club and my friend can't take hot stuff too much.  Well it's so good that I can't even let them try - haha!  Perfect mixture of the hot, salty and sour and the fresh "south" ginger (there should be a proper name for that ginger but I forgot), lemon grass, bergamot leaves, chilli and mushroom.  I think it's the best Tom Yum Krung I have ever tried.  For the others they are either too salty, hot or sour.

but this restaurant is a bit spicy and other food are just average. Since it is about 1 hour drive from downtown BKK, it may be good if you go to Koh Kret and make this as a stop on the way back. Mr. Thailand will definitely let you know about this when you visit BKK next time.

pity now Samsensoisam is quite quiet, the less delicious Kimlom-chom-saphan (literally means eat the wind and view the bridge)is packed!

i think pr and advertising maybe also important, lots of tourists follow advertisements to Kimlom-chom-saphan as this restaurant is run by a giant guest house group (Buddy) in Khao San area, but food is really too so-so, even the tumyam goong was very foreign-taste and some seafood very expensive and not fresh (i paid B1,300 for two martis prawns, one was fishy and not fresh), so not a chance to recommend this restaurant to anyone

Samsensoisam is too small to pay for advertising (and a bit zig-zag difficult to find it), but food is superb, it is not a seafood restaurant but the seafood was surprisingly good, i have a full review on Samsensoisam in my blog, if interested, can go take a look (but doesn't hv time to upload the pics there yet, will upload pics there soon)

If it is too spicy hot then it probably is not a good idea to go, especially it is one hour driving time from downtown.
I think I am more suitable for those Thai Restaurant for "Kwai Lo"(Western people)as it is not as spicy.

It looks very hot! Look at the chili oil.

OK, this is a good section for Thai learning as I know some of the words and could guess. Kin means "eat" like kin khao. Chom means see, as "chom view". Then Saphan - we can see this word in BTS - Saphan Taksin - Taksin Bridge. So leaving the remaining word I don't know is "Lom". But then now it should be compared to Wind as on your explanation.

Samsen Road or Khao San area is just 15 mins from Siam Centre and 3 mins from the Grand Palace; not 1 hour.

mmh.. ok, I just learned from the local hotel staff - often put an extra double time. Khao San to Siam is 15 min.? Anyway, I only went to Khao San twice - one time passing by in a car. The other time was a browsing around after Samsen soi3.

yes, 15 mins in normal traffic, can be faster if smoother traffic after 11pm, of course, during traffic jam, an hour; it is an almost straight road from Petchburi Road to Khao San area

That proves Mr. Sea is a careful and conservative person. This is the kind of customer we lenders like. If everyone is as conservative, prudent, and careful as Sea, we will not have the sub-prime problem here.

Stella, I have some bad habits, like going to the airport only 1 to 1.5 hours before departure. I think I don't know much about Khao San and from my memory Khao San seems a bit from downtown, a bit north or Yaowara (China Town). Then I just roughly estimated from downtown to Yaowara in about 20 min. Then another 15 min. from Yaowara to Khao San. So Samsen should be a bit further. Then I roughly add it up to 1 hour. Besides, some of the roads in BKK is only one direction, and I am not sure if that part is also the same.

Don't need to be too humble Sea. If you go to airport 1 to 1.5 hour before departure, that only means your schedule is tight and hectic, but not that you have bad time management.

mmh, maybe I shouldn't call it a bad habit. Just I know I can make it to the airport within 1 or 1 hour something before the departure time. It's just because I don't wanna spend unnecessary time at the airport.
